J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Store Lambs - Thursday 8th November

The fortnightly sale of Store Lambs had an entry of 2844 forward, which saw a buoyant trade for all types of lambs with buyers present from throughout the north of England, Midlands and Wales as well as further afield. More lambs could have been sold to the advantage of the vendor with some buyers leaving short of lambs.

The trade topped at £81 twice, firstly for Beltex lambs from Wendy Stamper, Chipping and secondly for Texel lambs from P Stephenson, Settle. Other Texel lambs sold to £77 from TW & J Beaty, Troutbeck and £75.50 from JG & BJ Escolme, Killington. Suffolk lambs sold to £74 from AT Threlkeld, Satterthwaite, with Mules selling to a top of £72 from G & ID Postlethwaite, Howgill. Plenty of well-fleshed, short keep lambs were in strong demand which sold around the £70 mark. Beltex lambs sold to an overall market average of £72.67.

Herdwick x lambs sold to a top of £70 from TW & J Beaty, with Cheviot lambs selling to £69.50 from AW Irvine, Wray. Plenty of pens of strong Mule lambs sold in the early sixties. A large proportion of horned lambs today saw Swaledales sell to a top of £57 from M Gibson, Grisedale with Rough Fells selling to £59 from JM Galbraith, Natland. All Swaledale lambs forward sold to an average of £36.30 with Herwick lambs averaging £31.78.

There was an overall market average of £54 achieved.

The next sale of store lambs will be on Thursday 22nd November with entries for the catalogue closing on Wednesday 14th November.
